Who We Are

The Dengie D-Caf was established in December 2013 as a Dementia Cafe, under the auspices of the Alzheimer's Society. In October 2015 we became an independent Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), registered with the Charities Commission.

D-Caf meetings

The D-Caf is a group, open to all, that meets once a month to offer support in living well with dementia. We aim to reduce the isolation that often affects people with dementia and their carers by providing a safe environment to talk, socialise and take part in activities.

Meetings are carefully structured to provide a balance of physical activity, mental stimulation and talk time. We always offer a range of free home-made refreshments and can provide information on dementia and links to appropriate organisations and professionals.

Members

The D-Caf is an 'Association model' CIO, run by its members.  Membership of the D-Caf is open to all residents of the Dengie area. There are no membership fees and we do not charge for activities at meetings

You are welcome to attend sessions without applying for membership, however we encourage you to become a member of the Dengie D-Caf in order to have a say in the running of the group.

Trustees

As required by the Charities Commission, the Dengie D-Caf has a board of Trustees, who meet regularly to ensure the smooth running of the charity.

The Trustees are responsible for making sure money from donations is used wisely to further the aims of the charity. They also ensure members and volunteers are kept safe and everyone is treated equally.

Volunteers

D-Caf meetings are held in the Burnham Town Council Chamber, which is kindly provided free of charge by the Council.  We have around six volunteers at each meeting in order to give members plenty of individual attention.

Volunteers receive training as appropriate to their experience and commitment. This usually includes , Dementia Awareness  Safeguarding and basic First Aid.
